Reading beauty claims

Look beyond the language on the label.

By IAM Editorial · Published October 28, 2026 · General education; not independently clinically reviewed

Start with your priorities.

Terms such as clean, natural and holistic do not on their own establish effectiveness or suitability. Ask what the specific product or service is claimed to do.

Ask about the practical details.

Look for evidence relevant to that claim and distinguish an ingredient study from evidence about the finished product. Ask about paid endorsements and edited imagery.

Keep the decision informed.

Your choices do not need to follow a trend. If a concern involves a changing skin lesion or persistent symptoms, seek assessment from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
